LASTING LEGACY OF THE WELSH COAL MINES

September 2021

The Welsh Valleys have a long and important cultural history of coal mines. I analyse how the history of coal is vital to Welsh identity and culture, even to this day, by drawing upon historical and political events.

ABOUT ME

I am a final year BA English student at the University of Exeter and a student journalist who has found such a passion for journalism, both print and broadcast, which has encouraged me to pursue a career in news journalism.

I have written, and continue to write, for multiple student-led and voluntary publications, including the Collective Magazine, Lavande Magazine and The Meridian Magazine. I also have extensive editing experience through my role as Editor for New Graduate and as an Online Features Editor for my student newspaper, Exeposé.

In addition to working as an Editor for New Graduate, I also work as one of their Digital Marketing Interns. As part of this role I create short form videos for social media, adding to my growing interest in multimedia journalism.

My growing passion for broadcast journalism is rooted in my involvement with me student radio station, XpressionFM. I produce a weekly news bulletin in addition to contributing to weekly news panel shows for my student radio station, XpressionFM.

My work is mainly comprised of articles on current affairs, in both short news and feature length forms, as well as longer essay-style pieces on culture, lifestyle and student life.
